Qualifications in Reproductive Medicine
A/Prof Lionel Reyftmann is a French Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. After his initial training, he undertook further subspecialist training in reproductive medicine at the Montpellier University Hospital, France where he held a staff specialist and senior lecturer position for seven years before moving to Australia.
He obtained the DESC - a complementary diploma in specialised study in reproductive medicine in 2007 (French CREI equiv). Subspecialists are specialists, who have elected to undertake an additional two years of subspecialty study, in France, after completing general specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. They acquire advanced competencies and skills in the field of infertility, reproductive endocrinology and fertility surgery.
Qualifications in Reproductive Surgery
A/Prof Reyftmann is an accredited specialist in Advanced Laparoscopy and Reproductive Surgery. He learned laparoscopy at the University Hospital Arnaud de Villeneuve in Montpellier, France and took some courses at the famous CICE - cradle of modern laparoscopy in Clermont-Ferrand.
Upon his arrival in Australia in 2010, he took a position at the prestigious
Sydney Women's Endosurgery Centre as a Research Fellow in advanced laparoscopic surgery with experts like Danny Chou, David Rosen and Greg Cario.
